The Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome (SLOS) Alliance is a group of medical geneticists, metabolic dietitians, pediatric gastroenterologists, and hepatologists who specialize in the management of SLOS.

Clay Ferren

CLAY FERREN, MD

Atrium Health Levine Children's Specialty Center

Dr. Ferren is a practicing biochemical geneticist working at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. He received his medical degree at UTMB in Galveston, Texas. He then went on to do a combined fellowship in pediatrics and medical genetics at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, completing his biochemical genetics fellowship there as well.

Dr. Ferren is board certified in pediatrics, medical genetics, and clinical biochemical genetics.

Dr. Ferren has a particular interest in managing and diagnosing inborn errors of metabolism.

Paul Hillman

PAUL HILLMAN, MD, PhD

Medical Geneticist, Houston, TX

Dr. Paul Hillman is a board-certified medical geneticist practicing at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He received his MD and PhD in medical sciences from Texas A&M University and completed a combined residency in pediatrics and medical genetics at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston before also completing a medical biochemical fellowship.

Dr. Hillman enjoys general medical genetics and has a particular interest in imprinting disorders and inborn errors of metabolism, directing a lysosomal storage disease clinic. He also has a passion for education, including lecturing at various levels of medical training and mentoring trainees in the field of genetics while serving as the program director for a combined pediatrics and medical genetics training program.

Ryan Himes

Ryan Himes, MD

Ochsner Children's Hospital

Dr. Himes is the medical director of pediatric liver transplantation at Ochsner Children's Hospital, where he also serves as the section head of pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition, and is the associate system chair of pediatric subspecialties. Dr. Himes received his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and a fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital. Dr. Himes's clinical research focus areas include biliary atresia, Alagille syndrome, progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC), and other rare causes of liver disease.

Joseph Ray

Joseph Ray, MD

UTMB Health Genetics

Dr. Joseph Ray is the division director of medical genetics and metabolism and an associate professor in the department of pediatrics. He received his medical degree from the McGovern School of Medicine and completed his post-doctoral fellowship in molecular genetics as well as his pediatric residency and medical genetics fellowship in a combined program at the McGovern School of Medicine. He also serves as a consultant for the Texas Newborn Screening Program, collaborating and reporting on the health status of newborns in the state who have received abnormal newborn screening results.

Specializing in medical genetics, Dr. Ray sees both adult and pediatric patients with all forms of conditions with genetic etiologies, including skeletal dysplasias, cancer syndromes, chromosome abnormalities, single gene defects, inborn errors of metabolism, and mitochondrial disorders among others.

He is board certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.

Paige Roberts

Paige Roberts, MS, RD

Metabolic dietitian, Houston, Texas

Paige Roberts is a metabolic dietitian in Houston, Texas. She received her master of science in nutrition and metabolism from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas, where she also completed her dietetic internship in 2018. Paige's clinical and research interests focus on nutrition management for individuals with inborn errors of metabolism.
